Procastination of darkness, No. 12 1 22
100 x 100 x 2 cm (h x w x d)

Vera Jochum, fine art

I am an artist living in Germany and my paintings have been shown in several solo exhibitions nationwide and internationally. In my art I process what is on my mind as well as my personal feelings and also my chaos. I describe my artistic practice as a constant process of construction and destruction, creating new perspectives in each layer until each work reaches its final state.

Stylistically, I can be categorised as an abstract expressionist, but I don't commit myself to this. Whatever inspires, stimulates and occupies me can be found in my paintings. Textures, colours, shapes, movements and spaces - I capture all of this in my paintings.

The postponement of darkness is expressed in this painting by the warm yellow-orange breaks, like blazing fires on the horizon. Not wanting to let go of the light and brightness and the longing for longer days again... I have captured all of this in this picture. I intuitively apply the colour, layer by layer, until I instinctively achieve the desired result. I build up the painting in many layers and want each painting to tell a story, so that each layer of paint adds a new chapter and invites a dialogue with the previous one. The creative process is a balance between intuitive marks on the canvas and careful consideration. I draw inspiration from the textures and stories we all encounter every day.
