ARTIST BIO

Alyson Davies is a visual artist based in Edmonton, AB (amiskwaciwâskahikan, Treaty 6 Territory).

She holds a MFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and BFA from the University of Alberta. Her artwork has been shown across Canada and the United States.

Alyson is the creator of Earth Child Tarot and Blue Earth Tarot, independently published tarot decks which have been collected worldwide.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores human connection with nature through paintings (sometimes autobiographical), which consider personal histories and the domestic experience. Small experiences are memorialized in artworks that offer moments of contemplation and stillness. Bold colours, flattened spaces, patterning and exaggerated proportions create worlds just removed from reality. The act of growing gardens directly influences the work where narrative moments are anchored by seasonality and other natural cycles.
