'Allah" Silk Strip , 9th-10th century

Re-examining strips of silk, excavated in the 1940s, in the collections at Uppsala university, one of the curators discovered a piece, in ancient kufic script, bearing the name Allah. This interpretation has since been challenged. The name, it has been argues, was reconstructed by reversing the image, and the image itself was incomplete. A legitimate difference in opinion.
