Melissa Aristizábal is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Bogotá, Colombia. Her fascination for sacred art and antique cultures inspires her to create a whole new imagery based in the connections that exist in the feminine psique with the magnificence of the universe. She places some of these feminine scenes and characters within diverse media and contexts and techniques ranging from oil paintings to large-scale murals. Considering the power of icons this reinterpretation of the sacred has no intention of being profane instead it is an attempt to build a reinterpretation, and in this way enunciate one of the constants of the human condition - mankind's enslaving of themselves by their own inventions. Her inspiration comes from the narratives that are created around the symbolism of this ancient civilization groups with tales and tradition where she seeks a link between them, religion and the cosmos.
