Allegory of Painting , 2013
5 x 4.3 in (h x w)

Pageant of the Masters re-creation of “The Allegory of Painting” by Jan Vermeer for the 2013 production, “The Big Picture.”

In addition to using wigs to re-create the hair styles in a "living picture," the Pageant utilizes headpieces. This allows the creative team to better reproduce the hair more accurately by controlling highlights and shadows. One of the most challenging aspects of the building the re-creations, the headpiece team utilizes a variety of techniques and materials such as buckram, muslin, neoprene, latex and more to create these one-of-a-kind soft sculptures. The headpieces are then painted by the Pageant's scenic artists.
