As I stepped into the dimly lit factory, I was hit by a strong, acrid odor of chemical dye. Filled with the vapor from boiling dye, the room was as hot as a steam bath. In this harsh environment, the workers were working with maximum effort to tightly compress bundles of string. Their bodies looked like those of athletes. “Those who do heavy labor in this town all have dirty hands”, one of them told me, proudly displaying his fingertips, which were stained black from dye.
