My daily walk has been my salvation during the Covid-19 pandemic and I have paced the laneways of my neighbourhood over and over. Countless times I walked past this fence, yet one day, the sun illuminated it and I stopped in my tracks, noticing what I had previously been oblivious to- makeshift “crosses,” holding the sagging fence in place.
As I obsessively consumed the news and absorbed the collective sadness, fear and uncertainty, mortality seemed ever more present in my surrounds.
