The pandemic has brought many changes to the way we live but when I saw playgrounds being taped off and tied up it struck a chord of complete sadness. A playground is a place of fun and happiness. It is full of
laughter. It is a place of adventure. By its very nature it is supposed to be a place where children are safe to dream and make memories.
I therefore wanted to capture the impact this virus was having on the loss of childhood, and the silence that it brings. Sometimes fear is strongest when it can’t be heard.
The pandemic has made people fearful of illness, of death. Frustrated and fearful of what they have lost, those simple pleasures of being with family and friends. Walking down the street without a mask and
breathing in fresh air, feeling the sun on their face. The pandemic and the white and red tape for a moment made me fearful that I may never hear laughter coming from a playground and see a child reaching for the
moon as their swing took them on their magical journey.
