Tales of 'High Water'
Digital Photography

Location: St. Vincent & The Grenadines

"Ruined buildings loom in between homes for the people of Colonaire. This coastal town has been facing the effects of erosion from the sea over decades in a relentless war against them. Coastal defenses are tired and sand from the sea is reaching further inland where children leave beach-like footprints in their gardens. The people living here share 'tales of high water' when it comes to describing the scenes of destruction, they watched the waves battle their neighbours homes in some cases merely feet away. Can these ruined buildings become more than just empty shells of their former self, or can they become valuable story-tellers to understand the effects of the sea on our island lives."
