To ease work, Schlitz utilized a system of conveyor belts to load beer straight from bottling rooms into insulated boxcars that kept the beer cool during transit. Before the practice of disposal bottles came to dominate the beer industry, distributors and retailers likewise shipped empty bottles and cases back to the breweries to be washed and re-used.
