“The Aftermath series is a reflection of the Melancholic mood Climate change is leaving in her path across the world and the impact on the lives of Caribbean people and the world as a whole.

On the 16th day of September 2017 she came with raging winds and waves filled with fury quite unlike her, she went from zero to over 200mph in the blink of an eye, winds lashing out at the trees ripping them nude waves so high roofs offered no haven her tears shattering the landscape letting mud and boulders glide this she did for a while, just as she came she was gone in a blink leaving memories of her rage high and low. Her name was Maria and she just needed to breathe.

Approaching Dominica from the sea we were greeted with the smell of scorched wood almost like the whole island was on fire but there was no smoke and the only fires were from families making their meals with firewood to my surprise every tree was stripped bear and found the smell was the after mart of the wind speed on trees and structures.”

Artist Biography

Oji Thomas is an interdisciplinary artist, born in Antigua but spent most of his life in Lagos Nigeria, his love for art was evident at a young age and he ended up studying creative arts with a major in painting and sculpting at the University of Lagos.

Working as an Art Director for over fifteen years has provided him a professional work portfolio ranging from reality television shows, to television commercials, outdoor product branding, cultural art design, content development for media & advertising PR projects, Oji Thomas has amassed a vast wealth of experience.

Oji delved into photography in his teen years and has developed a unique style which gives his images a voice that speaks volumes. He has always been fascinated with how the world works and its relationship with people, land, and how all things are connected. This gave him many opportunities as an artist to freeze moments in time.
