eCobalt-Perspectives, 2021

The aspiration for a greener world and promises of 0% carbon emission get people rallying for the further development of electric cars. But while many households in the western world proudly carry the flag of ecomobility, few of them realise the impact their choices have on child labourers mining the cobalt needed to produce the batteries powering their green conscience vehicles.

In a 100% renewable energy future, demand for cobalt could reach 426% of the deposits that are economically feasible to extract. By confronting the perspectives of clean mobility with the realities of the mining conditions we question the global impact of our local decisions. Is it only about CO2?
