To address the issue of climate change-induced mobility, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) started the GP HMCCC Programme in 2017. Implemented by the GIZ, the principal goal of the programme is to improve applied knowledge relating to the sustainable management of human mobility in the context of climate change in the Caribbean, the Pacific and in the Philippines.

OECS and GIZ are collaborating in the Caribbean region. So far, under the umbrella of the HMCCC Programme, OECS and GIZ have implemented a series of workshops, training, and events to create greater awareness and sensitisation of human mobility in the context of climate. These include three workshops on strategic foresight, that addresses in close cooperation with the OECS Commission, and regional integration of OECS Member States, among others. Another example is the jointly realised training on climate-induced migration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Furthermore, OECS and the HMCCC programme are producing several knowledge products such as studies, posters, short documentary movies, and other products intended to heighten awareness and understanding of the nexus between climate change and human mobility.
