MOLAA Collection. Gift of Angela B. Gutiérrez.

This diptych by Ivonne Ferrer is from a series of early works in which she humorously explores the way objects are viewed and valued. She presents two recognizable but superficially disconnected objects in an ostensibly neutral manner, backed by a marble background. The sculptural quality of the towel and painter’s palette, juxtaposed against their backdrop, provokes us examine them more closely to analyze their context and meaning. The title’s wordplay and reference to the action of process of “drying” adds a touch of absurdity to this ambiguous duo of works.
