Born in Whittier, California, Lu received her BA from San Jose State University, majoring in interior design. She studied ceramics at Orange Coast College, where her work was displayed many times. Her ceramics were exhibited at the Festival of Arts from 1963-1978. After choosing to move into watercolor painting, she quickly became adept at creating a unique technique. She then juried into the Festival in 1994, and exhibited her figurative watercolors until 2011.
