Transitions I

Re-examining the place of painting within contemporary art, I use the technologies of our time, building on classical and modern motifs, to bring a new dimension to visual art.

This project is a continuation of my exploration of colour, form and shape. This work was created during the Covid-19 lockdown, with all studios and darkrooms closed. I made a decision to work with what I had at that moment and using digital tools felt very appropriate.

My work explores transitions between states and the process of restructuring. I represent transformations in society, culture and politics as transitions in form and colour. Transitions are on one level the place of highest uncertainty but also of greatest possibility.

This work consists of a set of complementary images which introduce the viewer to a set of spaces which have elements of abstraction and realism that intersect and interact with each other. I have also worked with colour and light to give a sense of a rich, wide and interactive space where many possibilities present themselves.

I seek to draw the viewer into a world where their preconceptions are challenged and to a reconnection with a lost part of ourselves from a time when freedom was not forbidden.
