Ephemeral; family , 2021

Watercolour

This series of watercolours are portraits of my mother father and grandparents. Hearing what my loved ones had to share with me was precious as I find the older I get the harder it is for me to grasp how quickly time marches on. Through these conversations I like to think my family and I were able to create a small pocket for our time to be kept within. I am excited to listen to the recordings of each person in the future as each family member gave me many words to reflect upon.

When I think of family I think of resilience. I think of death and births transitions and intersections and how quickly these moments souls share overlap. Life’s most beautiful moments and life's worst moments are both fleeting. So when I think of the word family I see spring; a sacred, uneasy climate with so much hope. Ephemerals come up at this time. The term ephemeral means “Lasting a very short time”. I feel very ephemeral in the grand scheme of things.
