The Banksy inspired central composition and plain gray background fuse with Ruben’s realistic approach to smooth bodies and lively hues. Contrast between the roughly painted yet realistic baby is created against the bare background, forcing the sitter’s focus solely on the baby. The turn of the head, but lack of eye contact and inexplicably spilled milk insinuate events occurring beyond the canvas and baby’s scope. The milk is symbolic of nurture, in this case neglected and spilled.
