Self-portrait , 2020/21
100 x 80 x 2 cm (h x w x d)
Oil on canvas

This piece represents the duality of my self-perception. The contrast between the insecure me in a vulnerable moment of showcasing my art, and relaxed, languid me on the canvas within the canvas, creates a surrealistic multitude of dimensions. The blocks of vibrant, unnatural color, and bold brushstrokes, show the influence of German Expressionism on the piece. It’s also inspired by the Decadent movement, in particular “Portrait of Madame X” by Singer Sargent, and Munch’s Symbolist portraits.
