She was such a brave soul. She battled mental illness and White supremacy and still become one of the greatest voices of all time. Her music lifted me up when I was down and out. Maybe she has done the same for you.

Her African symbol means precious treasure.

Nina's cluster of flowers in her hair were actually imperfections in the wood— knots. In pyrography, it is best to find wood without these things but this wood seemed to be calling for Nina. Instead of covering up the knots, I embraced them.
