Sony Rice Cooker , 1945

In the late 1940s, Masaru Ibuka of the Sony Corporation aspired to create useful household items with the surplus of electricity from shut down war plants following WWII. His first product, the electric rice cooker, was primitive – formed by interlocking aluminum electrodes to the bottom of a wooden tub. Although others later improved on it, the original rice cooker worked so poorly that Sony quickly abandoned it in favor of radios.
