This painting depicts Cohen's London studio from 1962-63, situated off Holland Street in Kensington. Although the paintings he produced here are among his most intensely coloured - including the red- and blue-saturated Aspects of the Thames pictures, and the vibrant, passionate red-dominated commedia dell'arte series - his studio compositions of this period remain subdued; almost monochrome.
