Annie Whiles makes woodcarvings, drawings and embroideries from a collection of personal icons, gathered from encounters or confusions experienced, that overtime have not settled into any logic or reason. She thinks of these as messages or signals, to be seen, heard or felt when the time and weather is right, usually half awake and often delivered by animals, mediating between worlds.

Annie Whiles lives and works in London, she has taught at Goldsmiths on the B.A Fine Art since her M.A. there in 2000. Whiles started woodcarving after the 1987 Great Storm left an abundance of fallen trees.

Shows include Matts Gallery September 2020, ‘Moondog’2018 Danielle Arnaud, ‘Thirteen Blackbirds Look at a Man’, Chapter, Cardiff 2016, R.A Summer show 2018 and 2015, ‘Beggars Belief’, Danielle Arnaud 2011 and ‘Cuckoo’ 2007, touring to The Grundy, Blackpool.
