Io at rest , 2020

There’s something about insults that stick with you, bodies compared to animals, celestial objects, it’s almost humorous how often these things so frequently associated with power (think the ‘thunder’ in thunder thighs). In many ways I want to take that power, to do my best to take control of myself, the vision people project onto me but it’s difficult. We care about what people think of us, it’s in our nature as social creatures, but it’s important to shoulder the weight of people’s ignorance and rise above it. You only have one body, one life and it’s not worth it to live under the crushing weight of other people’s ideals following you like the gadfly that chased Io over the land.
