The Reflections of Venus , 2020
60 x 60 in (h x w)
Digital

So often we’re used to seeing visualizations of the goddess of love nude, focussing more on the physical beauty of the figure rather than the beauty of the connection they represent, the deeper part of an individual, which is why I chose to depict them clothed. Most importantly I wanted to show the goddess beauty as uncertain in their appearance, demonstrating some of the body checking behaviors I, as well as many
others, experience (grabbing body parts, constantly checking one’s reflection, etc.). These behaviors are a result of a negative body image that is often caused by negative feedback from family, peers, the media, and even by performing body checking behaviors (getting negative feedback from the checking behavior.)
