Clegg’s photo of the Durango, Colorado, roundhouse, “the hub of narrow gauge world in the United States,” introduces “Narrow Gauge Kingdom,” an expansive section of Mixed Train Daily. The text begins with a ballad by Powder River Jack Lee, “In Durango, In Durango / The Spaniards did fandango.” Beebe and Clegg expressed lavish praise for the lines running on rails three feet apart.
