My inspiration behind this piece was the overall energy that Dia de los Muertos provides for me as a whole. From the face paint to those bright, vivid dresses and costumes the entirety of the holiday is not just aesthetically invigorating, but also brings to me a sense of knowing and warmth. This feeling is derived both from my sense of community with my fellow Chicanx people as well as the basis for the holiday, where we celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed on and are no longer with us. In this piece I tried to capture that rich vividness of color that we associate with Dia de los Muertos.
