My painting “Unmasked” personifies the crisis of the 2020/21 pandemic. It expresses our collective anxiety elevated by quarantine, isolation, fear, trauma, frustration, and loneliness. The figure is a captive of the virus, faced with a sudden loss of her routine, community, health and livelihood. She is caught in a moment of uncertainty and indecision holding her only salvation: her mask.
