Eva Aldbrook conjures up a profile likeness of the Austrian violinist Siegmund Nissel in a few bold confident lines. Nissel was a co-founder of the Amadeus Quartet, three of whose members met during the mass internment of so-called 'enemy aliens' on the Isle of Man during the Second World War. The artist's father-in-law, Ernst Urbach, was also interned on the Isle of Man and afterwards introduced Aldbrook to her subject.
