Eva Frankfurther (1930-1959)

A full-length portrait of a seated waitress at Lyons Corner House, Piccadilly, depicted in full face view, her head inclined slightly to the right, her eyes not engaging with the viewer's. Shown in a moment of rest, away from the busy service of the cafeteria, her pose indicates a weariness boardering on exhaustion. This is one of the artist's many depictions of fellow workers at Lyons Corner House with a number focusing specifically upon the hard-worked waitresses, shown both at rest and at work. This is one of Frankfurther's few surviving oils on canvas.
