Whilst living on South Georgia I was lucky enough to spend the winter here and spend a week on holiday at St Andrews Bay. I wanted to take pictures which showed that it was winter here (a time that not many have the chance to visit). One of the big differences on the King Penguin covered South Georgia beaches in winter is that the chicks completely out number the adults. Thousands of chicks huddle together whilst both of their parents go off foraging for lantern fish meaning the beaches which in the summer are full of the colourful adults become scattered with fluffy chicks and when an adult does turn up they have a very hard job trying to find their chick.
