Air Jars (Spring 2020 New Product Line), (1 Gallon) Glass, metal, and paper, 2020: Wuhan Wet Market (corona virus) US Swine Factory Farm (swine flu) Hong Kong Poultry market (bird flu) Birqash Camel Market (MERS dromedary) Guangdong Live Animal Market (SARS) We kill animals in mass quantities, we disrupt habitats and ecosystems, we ruin soil, we kill bio organisms, and wonder why pandemics happen. "Air Jars" juxtaposes the basic hedonistic human instinct to buy pretty, new, and high end products against the dangerous, human caused and human killing infected air that exists in these places where these pandemic viruses originated. Each jar seemingly contains air from the place on the label. As sculptures this creates an unnerving tension in the air of the space knowing you as a viewer are in a room with a potentially dangerous virus separated only by a thin layer of glass and metal. As photographs this series intends to tempt the viewer with high end marketing. Through lighting, color, form, and composition, the images seduce the viewer into initially thinking these are actual high end available products. Through studying and experiencing the ecosystems and animalia that surround us in relation to conditions that are destructive, I aspire to capture the attention between the two impulses that I have towards them; beauty and fear. While considering the future of our planet and ecosystems, I find myself horrified and in awe of the scale of mass abuse of both plant and animal life worldwide.
