Psilocybin mushrooms may have been part of human life as far back as 9,000 years ago, based on images from cave paintings and early human art. From traditional mushroom ceremonies in Mexico, to psytrance parties in the forest, and now to research facilities and therapist’s offices, psilocybin mushrooms are our trickster allies. Unfortunately, they remain illegal in the US today, but there are signs on the horizon that indicate change is coming! Several cities in the US have decriminalized the magical fungi, and a few states, including Oregon, will vote soon to either legalize or decriminalize psilocybin. This little dancing mushroom painting, created on the Vision Train during quarantine, is a hopeful celebration of fungi freedom.
