In “Mount Tamalpais,” I evoke the sensation of gazing upwards at a stand of Coastal Redwoods. Standing amongst these majestic creatures is otherworldly, spectral and transcendent. The lush foliage of the forest floor and the sunlight refracted through the branches and leaves communicates a feeling of the sacred. We are just visitors to their realm, and we should treat them with the reverence and respect they deserve. As John Muir so eloquently put it, “when one tugs at a single thing in nature, (s)he finds it attached to the rest of the world.”
