Like the ‘meiosis’ and ‘songline’ pictures this resin painting relates to the idea of our planet being a living thing. Rocks, plants, water, atmosphere all part of a creation that is constantly reproducing and evolving. As well as its planetary representation It symbolises the moment of fertilisation or infection a cellular, microscopic level and the patterns and marks in the circle resemble strands of genetic material developing.

As in the previous paintings the importance of black is that it contains EVERYTHING, all colours (and in deep space most of the matter in the universe we can’t account for). Although almost only black this Nova painting represents the origins of life.

Our knowledge horizons are expanding on every front – into a world of new planets, black holes and microbes, from the infinite to the infinitesimal.
