Downey, CA

For this piece, I attempted to fuse colorful atmosphere of the Dia de los Muetros holiday with the rebellious expressiveness of LA graffiti. I felt like both spheres embrace a sort of celebration of art and culture that is totally separate from the norm. I have always been amazed with how joyful and vibrant the Dia de los Muertos celebrations have around Downey. The fact that Mexican culture can transform something so sorrowful into something so otherworldly and freeing seems magical.

LA graffiti can be seen the same way. Turning vandalism into a colorful canvas for the artist to express themselves while also adding character to their surroundings is nothing short of breath-taking. Combining the two together just seemed like a no brainer! And what came out is something I am still very proud of today. Simple, yet expressive. Silly yet informative.
