Atlas
Multi-media

Before this project, our class read a children’s book regarding racism, called “All Because You Matter”, by Tami Charles. We were told to create a piece of art inspired by the artwork of Illustrator Bryan Collier. Because of this, I chose the quote “If there is no struggle, there is no progress” by Frederick Douglas, to go along with my artwork. To symbolize the struggle that comes with progress, I attempted to create Atlas holding up the sky, from Greek mythology, hence the name “Atlas”. I thought this was a good idea as Atlas is suffering under immense struggle, as holding up the sky is no easy task, however without him, the universe would collapse (according to Greek mythology, at least).
