Excerpt of cataloguing text by Colorado State University student Morgan Bierbaum:

Russell Crotty’s work centers on nature and its interaction with the manmade world. His work carries a theme of mapping as he draws the stars and the California coastline. He is famous for his drawings on fiberglass globes covered in paper and large scale drawings in books, but his most recent work consists of ink and acrylic on paper overlaid with plastic three-dimensional shapes and fiberglass, which is sealed with bio-resin (a non-toxic resin made from sap). His works often feature indications of human activity and its effect on the environment, like satellite dishes, SUVs, and oil derricks. Some of his works feature landscape elements made of text from real estate listings to symbol the ever-encroaching presence of urban sprawl.
