Shen comes to the realization that Rin is actually an Orphan, and that her parents have perished in the avalanche that buried her town. Rin was the sole survivor of this event, and to cope with the loss of her parents she has been pretending that her parents were alive and well, feeding their frozen corpses scraps of food. The sight was so horrendous that Shen breaks down completely, vowing to take care of Rin himself.
