This portrait's contrasting elements of bright, celebratory colours and patterning and the subject's expression of sadness make for an intriguing work by Scott Maxwell.

Scott Maxwell is an emerging artist who works with acrylic and pencil on paper. Scott has a love of nature, people and old movies. While he draws landscapes, he is primarily a figurative artist whose subjects look directly at the viewer, with solid patches of beautiful in bright colours applied to the background. Using artist such as Gauguin and Picasso as reference points, his artworks are confidently rendered and bold.

Maxwell has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2019 and has exhibited in annual group exhibitions.
