Sephora Woldu , 2020

Sephora Woldu is an Eritrean American writer/ filmmaker. Named by Filmmaker Magazine as one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film, her work has reached audiences from the American Film Institute to Eritrean community centers in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Toronto, London, and New York. Her next feature film (Aliens in Eritrea) is currently in development, and was selected for the No Borders International Co-Production Market at IFP Week 2020. She is currently a Resident at SFFILM FilmHouse. Sephora received the Emerging Filmmaker Award (Indie Memphis), Balalaica Award (Moscow Indie Film Festival), and the Jury Prize for Bold Innovation (RiverRun International Film Festival) for her debut feature length narrative film, "Life is Fare". She is also co-founder of the Asmara Indie Film Festival and author of the filmmaking book "Adventures in the Art of Rejection" (Sun Night Editions, 2020). Her hobbies include dangling out of open windows, extreme journalling, and dreaming about the history/ scheming about the future of Eritrea. She lives in San Francisco with her bright red Castelfidardo accordion, Mushu.
