Sola Olulode b.1996, London
Sola Olulode’s figurative paintings portray a nuanced and tender vision of relationships and intimacy. Olulode aims to overlay, deepen, and reflect the identities of the Black womxn she depicts rather than simplify and register them as a “subject”. Through colour and painterly brushwork, Olulode’s dexterous hand employs a range of media: indigo and other natural dyes, wax, oil bar, and impasto lashings of paint. Olulode lives and works in London.
Olulode received a BA in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton in 2018. Recent solo shows include ‘Where the Ocean Meets the Beach’ at VO Curations 12th Floor, London (2020), ‘Don’t Let Go’ at Brixton Library, London (2019), Hold My Hand at Lewisham Art House, London (2019) and Moving in the Bluish Light at von Goetz, London (2018).
