Injustice
Prismacolor Pencil Crayons

This piece was done in retaliation of the 215 children found at the BC residential school, which is just the first of many horrifying things done in Canada to the indigenous community, that is constantly being swept under the rug or ignored. These schools were meant to erase the culture from the kids that attended, so I wanted to describe that in my art. The bucket represents all that Canada has done, and almost like its regressing and going backwards, going from a fully realized human, with colour and culture, being erased into nothing but black and white lines, with no depth to it. My hope is that this shows a mirror to Canada of what happened to the indiginous community, while also not speaking over them (as I am a white woman), Rather giving them a chance to speak and educate me and anyone who wishes, and bring that culture back to Canada, rather than hide it away.
