Gouache and pencil crayon

"Ur" is about the idea that the fascistic elements of modern politics are eternal. The name of the piece references the essay "Ur-Fascism" by Umberto Eco. These elements are the result of imperialism, capitalism, racism ad exceptionalism. It is not relegated to one party or person; it is all of history that contributes to this and not just in America, as we have seen the rise of fascism internationally. This piece depicts Lady Justice, without the blindfold around her eyes, being controlled by puppet strings. The unbalanced scales portray capital interest outweighing the human cost of was, conflict and the misuse of justice, domestically and internationally.
