Parts
paper collage

In this collage piece inspired by Anna Binta Diallo, I explore the concepts of identity and intersectionality. I wanted to represent parts of my experience as a LGBT W.O.C. growing up in this country in this time period. I used different image clippings in my collage to depict these different aspects of identity and how they overlap and interact with each other. For example, I included images that represent things such as gender and gender expression or nationality and western culture. The solid background contrasting the silhouette shows how I can be made to feel like my cultural identity cannot coexist with the other parts of my identity, but in reality, they are both parts of this larger piece
