Indian Queen (Based on “A Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer in 1665)
Digital Self-Portrait

This digital fusion self-portrait is based on “A Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Dutch Baroque painter Johannes Verneer. It caught my eye when I was doing a virtual tour of the Mauritshuis museum as the plain dark background puts the girl at the center of attention. I dressed up as an Indian “queen” to represent my culture and traditions. I wanted to show my identity in a clear manner as a modern young girl who loves to dress up in her religious clothes and to represent the majestic lives of olden day queens. Then I inserted pictures of Ganesha, my favourite god, to further represent my culture. I have a lot of connections to this god. I trust him and ask him for help all the time. My artwork portrays how people have very special identities within them but are unable to notice and pursue it.
