ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
In The Living Green Against the Dead White, Rees is inspired by an interview with the biochemist Gerald Joyce in his interview with Studio 360: https://www.pri.org/stories/2012-02-24/aha-moment-gravitys-rainbow. In it he weaves Pynchon's Gravity's rainbow, the site of Henry Moore's sculpture Atomic Energy, and his work in biochemistry together. By developing molecules that self-replicate and evolve on their own, he tries to make order from randomness.
