Fear of Height
120 x 150 x 2.5 cm (h x w x d)

Virtual Reality (VR) offers a great potential to study behavioral and emotional responses, as it allows delivering reality-like interactive environments within the laboratory. In particular, the VR-Labs research group at the Department of Psychology I investigates learning mechanisms that give rise to and sustain pathological fear and anxiety and virtual reality-based exposure therapies for treatment. The picture depicts a person who visits a virtual replica of a lookout tower (VT+Expo2 Virtual Environment Fear-of-Heights-Tetraeder © VTplus) using a Computer Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) system during an exposure-based treatment for fear of heights (acrophobia).
