Work not to scale

"Here in this sculpture, I have introduced the tree trunk as the base to denote a feeling of growth, the two figures as if emerging out of mother tree with an entwined upward movement emphasized particularly in the hands of the child and the right hand of the mother holding the child. This feeling however starts from the left leg of the child ending in the pot held by the mother. The raised left hand of the mother holding the pot keeps the balance of the whole composition. The texture of the tree trunk has been maintained throughout in the surface modeling of the two figures against the texture of the dotted highlights of the leafy background. The tree form has been exploited as far as practicable. The sculpture is thus neither a human representation in naked realism nor it is a representation of a free tree in its botanical meaning. It is to me a sculpture born out of treeness."
