Through observing and reflecting on the myriad relics found in nature (like this seahorse exoskeleton), I seek to raise my own awareness about the organisms and their brilliant design. The discipline of drawing and/or sculpting these forms forces me to be more intimate with the objects as I analyze their structure and get a sense of their “being.” My goal is to capture the idea or spirit of these objects. Only recently did I begin to understand that this is my way of reading nature.
